Businesses need to be using social media

HOUMA, La., (KNOE 8 News) – Contemporary entrepreneurs would do well to utilize social media in their business plans. And an upcoming statewide conference is geared to teach them how to do just that.
Marvin O. Smith, president of Spectrum Marketing Group in Monroe and Authorized Local Expert for Constant Contact, is slated to speak at the inaugural Louisiana Entrepreneurship Fest: For Youth and First-Time Entrepreneurs on "Social Media Marketing for Business."
A Tallulah native, Smith provides technical assistance to businesses and organizations by creating and implementing new marketing strategies in the areas of advertising, branding, public relations, social media, design and production.
"This high-energy session will cover essential strategies and best practices that a business or organization should understand to successfully launch a social media marketing campaign," Smith said. "Participants will leave with real-world insights and knowledge they can put to work immediately to help their business or organization succeed."
The conference is slated for Thursday, June 20, through Friday, June 21, at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center. Smith's presentation is scheduled for Thursday morning, after which participants will proceed to various breakout sessions.
The overall purpose of the conference, spearheaded by Louisiana Economic Development (LED) and the Terrebonne Parish Economic Development Authority (TEDA), is to teach attendees the basics of establishing and growing a business – allowing them to return home with comprehensive knowledge to complete a business plan.
The event will be the first statewide entrepreneurial symposium targeting high school juniors and seniors, university students, entrepreneurial-minded non-students, veterans and teachers.
