Monroe police respond to "large fight with shots fired"

MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - Overnight, police in Monroe were called too what was described as "a large fight with shots fired" in the Peach Street area.

According to police, several subjects were fighting in the parking lot of an apartment complex and at least one shot was fired into the air.

Cooperating witnesses at the scene led officers to a firearm that was located at the complex.

Police say that witnesses at the scene along with other recovered evidence indicated that Shakkil J. Thompson was the person who had fired the weapon.

The firearm was later found to be a stolen gun.

Police also say that Thompson was found to be a convicted felon. He was booked into OCC for Illegal Use of a Firearm, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

No one was injured during the incident. And police were unable to determine the reason the fight occurred.

Monroe Police also wish to thank the citizens who cooperated in this incident in order to take a dangerous felon off the streets.
