Monroe Community Centers Receive Upgrades

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Changes are on the way for three Monroe Community Centers.

Marbles, Johnson, and Emily P. Robinson centers will all be getting new wood floors. It's part of a $300,000 improvement project. About $200,000 will go to fix the floors; the rest of the money will be divided among other community centers in the city.

City leaders hope the updates will make the centers more attractive to tournaments and other sporting activities.

Parks and Recreation Director, Jimmy Jones, says "it's a win win situation. Of course we win in parks and recreation, and hopefully money will be made in the city. Other venders will also make money, like hotels. So this is a situation where everyone is going to win."

The money is coming from the Monroe-West Monroe public trust funds. These updates still need final approval from the city council Tuesday night.
