Intoxicated bicyclist accused of causing wreck

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A Monroe man is injured and facing charges for causing an accident while riding intoxicated on his bicycle.

Monroe Police responded to a vehicle verses bicycle accident that happened at the corner of Thomas and Camp Road in South Monroe Sunday night around 9:45 p.m.

Traffic investigators determined the bicycle operator did not have proper headlamp attached to the bicycle and was intoxicated at the time of the incident.  The investigation further revealed the driver of the motor vehicle had committed no traffic violations and the accident was unavoidable due to the actions of the bicycle operator. 

The bicycle operator is being treated at a local hospital and his condition is listed as serious.
