WASHINGTON D.C. (KNOE 8 News) - A Louisiana U.S. Senator is speaking out about same sex marriage.

Senator Mary Landrieu is one of four Senate Democrats who have not publicly backed same sex marriage rights.

The Supreme Court heard oral arguments two weeks ago in two cases on the issue, including a challenge to the federal defense of marriage act that defines marriage as between a man and a woman.

Landrieu spoke to CNN about her political opinion on the issue.

"I'm a lot, like other people said, my views have evolved on this. But my state has a very strong constitutional amendment against gay marriage and I think I have to honor that," Senator Mary Landrieu said.

Landrieu says her personal views are different from her political views. She believes a person should marry whoever they want to marry.
