WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Investigators say the fire that killed two West Monroe teens started outside in the porch area.

Ouachtia Parish Fire Investigator, Curt Meachum, says the cause of the fire will be undetermined unless something new arises. Meachum says they do not suspect foul play.

West Monroe High School senior Kyle Phillips and freshman Mitchell Whitehead died Wednesday when the mobile home they were in caught on fire. Meachum says a window exit where the boys were sleeping, was blocked by the headboard of a bed.

He says, "make sure they have a working smoke detector in their home. Also, as we always tell people, have two ways out of every room. Have an escape plan, once you get out never go back in."

Meachum says the home did have a working smoke detector.

Many members of the community are holding fundraiser's for the family of the two teens killed.
