West Monroe High School Helps Students Cope

Posted: Updated:

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Wednesday was a very difficult day at West Monroe High School where two boys killed in a house fire went to school.

West Monroe High School senior Kyle Phillips and Freshman Mitchell Whitehead died when the mobile home they were in went up in flames.

Counselors spent the day there, helping students and staff through their grieving process. School leaders tell us a lot of people used those counselors to try and make sense of the loss; and learn how to cope in the days to come. The school also paused for a moment of silence to remember the boys and their family.

West Monroe High Assistant Principal, Dane Lane, says "Mitchell loved to rodeo, and Kyle just a sweet guy and worked down at Macs. Everybody that knows those two boys, know how kind and sweet they are. We'll miss them very much."
