Columbia man arrested for burglary after car caught on camera

HAMMOND, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff reports 37-year-old Jimmy Smith of Columbia was taken into custody on a burglary charge.

Smith is accused of burglarizing a home near the Tangipahoa Parish line in late March. Upon investigation, it was reveled a video surveillance system in the home was able to capture the suspect and suspect's vehicle on camera.  

On March 28, 2013, the suspect vehicle was located at a residence in Albany where investigators made contact with Smith. Smith was then positively identified as the burglary suspect caught on surveillance video.

At this time, Smith was asked to report to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office for further questioning.  Smith complied. 

During the investigation, Smith confessed to the burglary and was taken onto custody and charged with the burglary.  Investigators made a partial recovery of the stolen items.

Smith was released on a $50.500 property bond.
