UPDATE: KNOE 8 News has learned an account to assist the family of Wednesday morning's double fatal fire has been established Ouachita Independent Bank. The account is in the name of Samantha Cobb. Donations can be dropped off at any location.

As well, KNOE 8 News has learned that friends have pitched in to rent the family a temporary home in the parsonage at Good Hope Baptist Church. Friends of the family tell us the teens killed in the fire were home alone at the time. Several other children were staying with relatives and the mother and other family members were in route back to the area after having been in Oklahoma to attend a funeral.

UPDATE: The Ouachita Parish School District has confirmed that two West Monroe High School students were killed in an early morning fire Wednesday.

Senior Kyle Phillips and freshman Mitchell Whitehead were killed when the manufactured home they were in, at 266 Weldon Road caught fire.

Wednesday morning more than a dozen West Monroe students gathered outside the burned out shell of the home seeking answers, closure and comfort from one another. The students held hands and prayed, many in tears.

Ouachita Parish firefighters say the call came in around 3:30 Wednesday morning. When crews arrived on the scene, they found the home fully engulfed. They were told two people were still inside.

Fire crews were able to stop the fire where the boys, were but were unable to save them. Firefighters are still figuring out what caused this fire. They say other people did live in the home, but where not there at the time of the fire.

Friends of the victims tell us the teens were cousins. Counselors are at West Monroe High School today helping students cope with the loss.
