Moffitt Arraigned in Franklin Parish

Posted: Updated:

WINNSBORO, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A Franklin Parish woman accused of setting herself on fire and blaming the incident on a racially-motivated attack has pleaded not guilty to the charges against her.

Sharmeka Moffitt appeared in court Tuesday, where she was arraigned on charges of terrorizing and filing a false police report.  Moffitt claimed three men in white hooded sweatshirts set her on fire and left the letters "KKK" spray painted on her car last fall.

Police later found DNA evidence that linked Moffitt to the crime.

Moffitt's trial is expected to begin in December.  She's due back in court on July 17.
