Pope calling for peace on Easter

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Pope Francis is resting Sunday night after his first Easter mass. It all happened in St. Peter's Square.

He was dressed in simple white robes Sunday. The pope gave the traditional blessing and called for world peace. He has only been in the role for a few weeks but Pope Francis already has many supporters.

On CBS' Face the Nation Sunday morning, the archbishop of New York spoke out in favor of the new pope.

"Number one, that he comes from what the Europeans still refer to as the 'New World'  from Latin America. And it reminds us of how the church is growing how the church is universal," Cardinal Timothy Dolan said.

Pope Francis says he won't be moving in to the papal residence but will instead stay in the two room apartment he's now occupying inside the Vatican.
