WINNSBORO, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The mother of a Franklin Parish fallen soldier is weighing in on values and education.

The grieving parent is speaking out at this year's "Save Our Sons and Daughters" rally.

"Live your life to the fullest," says Kim Henderson to the crowd of families.

It's an encouraging message from a parent to the children in the audience, but it means just a little more coming from Henderson, the mother of Chief Warrant Officer Bryan Henderson, who died this month in a helicopter crash while serving his country.

"To honor our Bryan's memory is by working hard and doing your best in school so that you have choices in life," says Henderson.

She and others spoke to Franklin Parish families about values, staying out of trouble, and becoming successful.

Motivational speaker Marcellus Scott says the key to children's success starts at home.

"We can't leave that responsibility on the school system. The school system is just what it's for. Education," says Scott, "Raising your kids is for your home, you've got to start there."

Kim Henderson says it takes a village to raise a child and she thanks the Franklin Parish community for helping her son become an outstanding man and soldier. She challenges everyone to a live a full life, just like Bryan.

"Find your dream, go for it. That's what our Bryan did," says Henderson.
