UPDATE: Salvation Army employee arrested in Monroe

Arrested: Dana Hill Arrested: Dana Hill

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The Salvation Army's motto is "doing the most good," but one Salvation Army employee found herself on the wrong side of the law, after taking thousands of dollars.

Salvation Army Spokesperson, Mark Jones, says "now the Salvation Army is down $30,000 to meet human needs."

Dana Hill, of West Monroe, was arrested Wednesday night after an almost 2 month long investigation.

Monroe Police, Sgt. Mark Johnson, says "Monroe Police were notified in January of 2013 of possible misappropriation, that had been taking place for the majority of 2012." The Salvation Army noticed unauthorized charges on gas cards and a Sam's Club credit card, not used for the Salvation Army. This sparked an internal audit.

Johnson says, "based upon that information Monroe Police detectives obtained an arrest warrant." Hill was arrested and charged with felony theft. Jones says the news is devastating. He says, "it grieves us, that people that we trust to help us support the community and meet human needs in the community, would take advantage of that trust."

Jones hopes this incident will not stop the community from giving donations to help those in need." He says, "they will continue to put that trust in us, and help us over come this set back."

Hill is the wife of David Hill, who's the chief fire investigator for the City of Monroe. Monroe Police say he's not connected. Both declined comment when we spoke with them Thursday.

Jones says Hill was a short-term employee. The investigation is just beginning into her actions while working there. Hill faces felony theft charges. Her bond was set at $10,000.

Previous report:

Hill is facing felony theft charges. The exact amount of the money allegedly stolen has not been released.
