La. U.S. Attorney recognized for public service

Lafayette, La., (KNOE 8 News) - United States Attorney for the Western District of Louisiana, Stephanie A. Finley, has been recognized, at Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority's 81st Regional Conference for her public service as United States Attorney for the Western District of Louisiana.

The public service award is presented to citizens for distinguished service to their community as a part of the organization's commitment to serve mankind. Alpha Kappa Alpha is an international service organization founded in 1908 as the oldest  Greek-letter sorority established by African-American college-educated women.

U.S. Attorney Finley is a Grambling State University and Southern University Law Center graduate who was selected by President Barack Obama in January of 2010, after being recommended by Senator Mary Landrieu and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in June of 2010, to serve as the United States Attorney for the Western District of Louisiana. She was sworn into office on June 2, 2010. Ms. Finley is the first woman in the State of

Louisiana appointed as U.S. Attorney. She serves as the chief law enforcement officer for 42 of the 64 parishes in Louisiana and is charged with the prosecution of criminal cases brought by the Federal Government and the prosecution and defense of civil cases in which the United States is a party.
