WASHINGTON, D.C., (KNOE 8 News) – Today, Congressman Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) released the following statement on Senate Democrats' failure to pass Senator Sessions' amendment to require a balanced budget by 2023.
"It's pretty reasonable to expect the federal government to balance our budget by 2023. The average American family does not get more than 10 years to balance their budget and neither should the federal government. Yet, last night Senate Democrats voted down Senator Sessions' amendment to require the Senate budget to balance by 2023.
"Ironically, many Senate Democrats have previously supported balanced budget amendments. Those now appear to have been empty promises. When America needs them to get our economy back on track, Senate Democrats have broken their promises and voted against a responsible budget. I am disappointed that the Senate has failed to propose a budget that would create jobs and grow our economy."
