MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Reports of what could have been a suspicious item outside Monroe's Peacanland Mall turned out to not be suspicious at all. But police say, better safe than sorry.
At approximately 1:00 pm Friday, the Monroe Police Department responded to a suspicious item at Pecanland Mall. An initial investigation showed a discarded circuit board was found under a dumpster on Mall property and was reported to Mall authorities.
Per policy, Monroe Police were notified and responded to the scene. Patrol officers were able to secure the item and determine the item was a circuit board that appeared to have been discarded from an electronic item. The item was found to not be part of any destructive device or dangerous to the public.
At no time was an alert put out to Mall patrons nor were any specialized units dispatched to the Mall. No one was injured during this investigation.
Monroe Police wish to commend the patrons who notified authorities of the suspicious items and by becoming involved to report anything that could harm our community.
