Some good news for some Louisiana art and music teachers

JENNINGS, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The Jefferson Davis Parish School Board has tabled a measure to eliminate art and music teachers - except band - in elementary and high schools.
Apparently, the measure would have also done away with elementary French teachers and selected "response to intervention positions". And it would have allowed staff to eliminate additional teaching positions based on the parish staffing formula.
Superintendent David Clayton said the measure would have eliminated almost a dozen positions, saving nearly $800,000 a year.
Board member Jimmy Segura asked the board Thursday to postpone action so members could have more time to study the proposal.
