MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Another case of dogs trying to get through fences at Monroe's zoo, but this time they were caught in the act.

At approximately 7:00 am Friday, Monroe Police responded to a call of Pit Bulls attempting to gain entry into the Louisiana Purchase Garden and Zoo.  A motorist passing by the complex on the parish side of the property observed the animals trying to enter through a fence and called Monroe Police.

Monroe officers responded and found four Pit Bull dogs at the location.  Parish Animal Control officers responded to the area. Two of the animals were destroyed at the scene by animal control officers due to their condition and actions. The other two animals were taken into custody and later taken to the Parish Animal Shelter.

Monroe Police wish to express their appreciation to the public for the excellent community cooperation displayed in this case. Due to the diligence of this community member, a possible tragedy at the zoo was averted.  This is the type of community/police cooperation that is necessary to keep our community safe.

Recent dog attacks have resulted in the deaths of several zoo animals.
