MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - Former Monroe City Councilmen Arthur Gilmore and Robert "Red" Stevens have filed an objection to a government request to limit certain evidence that can be used in their upcoming trial.

In a motion filed in federal court, the defendants say that in order to prove entrapment, which is what they are alleging, they will need to present evidence pertaining to the tax liability of Eddie Hakim, the government's key witness from the original trial, and any evidence related to the intimate relationship between former FBI case agent Bill Chesser and Assistant U.S. Attorney Mignonne Griffing.

Gilmore and Stevens were convicted of racketeering and bribery in 2011. However, a judge had granted a motion for a new trial by the men. That trial is set for April 22.
