JENNINGS, La. - The Jefferson Davis Parish School Board has tabled a measure to eliminate art and music teachers - except band - in elementary and high schools. The superintendent says the measure would have eliminated almost a dozen positions, saving nearly $800,000 a year.

LAKE CHARLES, La. - Lake Charles police have captured one of the three men wanted in connection with a triple homicide. A spokesman says 18-year-old Armonta Dquon Hadnot, of Lake Charles, was taken into custody overnight. Two other unidentified people are also being sought in the deaths. The police chief says three victims were killed during a robbery.

LAFAYETTE, La. - The University of Louisiana at Lafayette could start work on $115 million in new construction and improvements of its athletic operations as early as this summer. A capital campaign to fund the master plan will be announced later this spring.

NEW ORLEANS, La. (- A federal judge has postponed the retrial of a retired New Orleans police sergeant charged with helping cover up deadly shootings on a bridge after Hurricane Katrina. Gerard Dugue's retrial was scheduled to start May 13. The judge has not set a new date.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Arkansas lawmakers are considering legislation that would ban the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors. The House is schedule to vote today on a bill that would impose a $100 fine on anyone who gives or sells an "e-cigarette" to a person younger than 18. Electronic cigarettes are battery-operated devices that heat a liquid nicotine cartridge, producing a vapor that users inhale.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - U.S. Senator John McCain's speech at the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service has been pushed back to next month. McCain was originally slated to discuss current affairs tonight in Little Rock. But his lecture was rescheduled for April 12th because of a scheduling conflict.

LONOKE, Ark. - State officials say maintenance work on an overpass will mean temporary lane closures on Interstate 40 in Lonoke County. The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department says the work will be done next Wednesday and Thursday on the Kerr Road overpass. One westbound lane between mile markers 163 and 167 will be closed.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission says a record number of elk were harvested during the 2012 hunting seasons. Biologist Wes Wright says 44 elk were harvested during the hunting seasons in September and October. The previous record was 38 elk.

NATCHEZ, Miss. - The Adams County hurricane super shelter is on its final step of approval. The Natchez Planning Commission approved the site plan yesterday. The plans will now be sent to the Federal Emergency Management Agency for approval.

OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. - An Olive Branch community remains in the lurch about whether a controversial movie theater will be constructed near its homes. The developer has filed an appeal in DeSoto County Circuit Court about Board of Aldermen decisions he said are preventing a theater from being developed near Wedgewood subdivision.

BILOXI, Miss. - Biloxi police says a homeless man found dead in a wooded area was the victim of a homicide. A police spokesman says a resident discovered the boy around 9:30 yesterday morning.

DALEVILLE, Miss.- Former State Rep. Jerry Wilkerson has died. He served three terms in the Mississippi House and was a spokesman for the propane, petroleum and convenience store associations for 25 years. He was 68.
