BASTROP, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Citizens of Bastrop filled City Hall Thursday evening to hear from candidates running for mayor.
The forum gave each of the seven candidates vying for the mayoral position as chance to answer questions from the public. Many of the questions were about utilities in the city of Bastrop, and how each candidate would bring more jobs to the area. Job creation seemed to be an important issue to many of the candidates, especially after the closing of the Georgia Pacific Mill in the city, and it's recent demolition.
Candidates for Mayor are Henry Cotton (D), Samuel M. Jackson (R), Arthur Jones (D), Ricky Anderson (no party), James Murphy (R), Troy Downs (D) and incumbent Betty Alford-Olive (D).
These candidates will appear on the ballot for the upcoming April 6th election.
