Monroe Tower decision may happen Friday, March 22nd

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - The FAA is indicating that we may learn the fate of the Monroe Airport's control tower operations Friday, March 22nd.

Previously, this past Monday had been the day, but the FAA said that we'd have to wait at least until Friday to find out their decision.

That decision is whether about a hundred or so towers at airports around the country will lose their funding for control personnel and operation.

Recently, J. David Grizzle, chief operating officer of the FAA's Air Traffic Organization, sent a message informing airport sponsors and owners about the delay, moving the expected announcement from Monday to Friday of this week.

Airport officials had until this past Wednesday to request the FAA reconsider their tower closures, if they have reasons pertaining to national interest.

The FAA had originally planned to finalize a list of facility closures by this past Monday.

In regards to the Monroe Tower, there has been a "full court press" in Washington to get the airport operation here off that original list of approximately 233 airports facing the loss of tower operations.
