MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Here's a round-up of news items this morning from around the ArkLaMiss...

VINTON, La. - The town of Vinton has installed a new siren warning system to alert residents to take action in emergencies. The two sirens can be heard throughout the town when they go off.

COVINGTON, La. - Delgado Community College will close its Covington campus at the end of the spring 2014 semester. School officials say classes will slowly be phased out in the months ahead.

BASTROP, La. - The Louisiana Supreme Court has reinstated a 25-year sentence on a Morehouse Parish man involved in a 2008 vehicular homicide. A lower court had reduced the sentence against Craig Oliphant to 15 years.

LAFAYETTE, La. - Sheriff Mike Neustrom said overcrowding at Lafayette's jail is under control, but that he supports forming a committee to track issues there in case things change. The sheriff met yesterday with police officials, judges, lawyers and school officials.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - A storm system is expected to bring more snow to Arkansas later this week. The National Weather Service says 1 to 3 inches of snow is possible in northern Arkansas. A winter storm watch is in effect until tomorrow night for counties in north central and northeast Arkansas.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - A Pulaski County Jail inmate has been found dead in his cell. The sheriff's department says 34-year-old Erik Canada was found dead late Sunday afternoon by a jail guard who was making rounds. A suspected cause of death wasn't released. Canada was arrested last week for a parole violation and was set to be released today.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Associate Superintendent Marvin Burton has been selected as interim superintendent of the Little Rock School District. The school system says Burton will take over on Friday after the resignation of Superintendent Morris Holmes goes into effect. Officials say Burton will serve only until Holmes' successor, Dexter Suggs, takes the job.

BRISCOE, Ark. - State officials say westbound lanes of Interstate 40 near Briscoe will be closed for several hours to clean up debris from an accident. The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department says a tractor-trailer overturned yesterday, spilling grain onto the interstate. Westbound traffic will be detoured at Exit 202 for this morning's cleanup.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - A Columbia man received no prison time following his guilty plea to filing false claims for Deepwater Horizon oil spill relief funding during his sentencing. But a federal judge made graduating from William Carey University a condition of Jermain Ball's three years of supervised release.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Hattiesburg City Council has tabled a motion to amend alcohol ordinances to allow individuals to possess open beer and light wine containers on downtown streets closed for special events. The mayor says he felt the council should wait until it could gain more input on the proposal.

WIGGINS, Miss. - Authorities have seized 117 mixed-breed dogs from a home in Stone County. The owner of the home, Shirley Guy, does not live there but faces charges of misdemeanor animal neglect and animal cruelty.

GULFPORT, Miss. - The Mississippi Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo is returning to Gulfport. The rodeo is scheduled for July 4-7.
