Representative Bill Cassidy opposes Perez nomination

WASHINGTON, D.C.  (KNOE 8 News) - Louisiana's 6th District Representative is speaking out against President Obama's nomination to chair the Labor Department.

Congressman Bill Cassidy is the second Louisiana congressman to speak out against the appointment of Thomas Perez.

Perez is the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights. He is involved in a National Right to Vote case involving the New Black Panthers of Louisiana.

Cassidy released the following statement about Perez:

"Based on recent events in Louisiana, it appears that Mr. Perez has been unacceptably selective in enforcing federal law. If this is how Mr. Perez approaches law enforcement he should not receive a promotion and should not remain in his current position."
