Follow Up: Jindal site visit to the Assumption Parish sinkhole

BAYOU CORNE, La (KNOE 8 News) - Governor Bobby Jindal visited the site of a sinkhole in Assumption Parish on Tuesday.

The governor was greeted with mixed reaction in the community of Bayou Corne where a 12 acre sinkhole continues to grow.

350 people have been displaced by the hole. There is concern that the hole is continuing to grow.

"I know they had to suspend some of the skimming operations to do the seismic testing, Jindal said. I think it is important as soon as it is safe for them to go out there and start skimming again.  You can see a sheen on top of the sinkhole obviously."

The company who previously owned the land that the sinkhole is on is working on settlements and buyouts with property owners. State Department of Transportation officials are monitoring the sinkhole and it's potential effect on Louisiana Highway 70.
