Update: Louisiana State Trooper arrested on drug charges

MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - A Louisiana State Trooper has been arrested in Monroe on drug related charges.
Ronald O. Thomas, who was working in the Monroe area in the Bureau of Investigation Unit, is being accused of Public Payroll Fraud, Conspiracy to distribute cocaine, distribution of cocaine, malfeasance in office and obstruction of justice.
According to the LSP, a criminal investigation had been underway since last year and resulted in Thomas' arrest this week without incident.
The affidavit also says that a co-defendant in the case has been arrested as well, and according to the LSP has confirmed to the arresting officers that Thomas was distributing narcotics within the Ouachita Parish area. According to the co-defendant, Thomas had also made attempts to warn "this co-defendant" that the LSP was conducting an investigation of the co-defendant and instructed persons to tell the co-defendant to "destroy evidence and get rid of any money."
Thomas has been booked into the Ouachita Parish Correctional Center. He faces 90-years in prison and more than $70,000 dollars in fines if convicted.
Police also arrested Leonard Dunn, of Monroe, in connection with this investigation. Dunn is charged with multiple drug crimes. he faces a 40-year sentence and $65,000 dollars in fines if convicted.
