MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - This year's prom will truly be a fairy tale for lucky young ladies who got their dresses for free.
Hundreds of girls eagerly wait outside the Cinderella Project ready to find their perfect prom dress, and sometimes it's the first dress they try on.
"This is my first one," says Johnniemay McDonald, "when I saw it I said I just have to have it, so I got it!"
Johnniemay and her best friend Ashley are getting dresses for their senior prom at Bastrop High School. With two very different styles, the Cinderella Project is the perfect place for both girls to find what they're looking for.
"Anything from short to long, bling bling, fancy, plain, it's here, it's available," says Ashley's mom.
With hundreds of dresses to choose from, no girl will go home empty handed. it's not just "shopping made easy", but all the dresses and accessories at the Cinderella Project are free.
"We collect dresses at the beginning of the year, they drop them off at boutiques and salons," says coordinator Ashley Yeldell, "we sort them, size them, have them cleaned, then we have our dress giveaway."
Many of the dresses going home today will be donated back to the Cinderella Project for next year, and some of the mothers and students plan to come back as volunteers.
It's a chance for every girl to have her very own Cinderella moment. For more information, visit the Cinderella Project website.
