Families React to Windsor Inn Apartment Fire

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - For family members trying to get to the Windsor Inn Apartments the drive seemed extra long Friday. Many, just trying to find out if their loved one made it out ok.

Dozens of people watched as the Windsor Inn went up in flames. Dorothy Brantley's daughter lived in the apartments and says, "it's a feeling that I just can't describe." Brantley was looking for family and friends, others just trying to see what was going on.

Brantley says, "I could tell she was upset. I asked her what was the matter, and she said the apartment was on fire. I asked where are she was, and she said they were at the Dollar Tree because they told me to get out of the apartment."

Brantley says, "it looked like I wasn't getting there fast enough. It looked like the closer I got, the further the place gets away." Many people like Brantley could see the smoke as far away as West Monroe. Brantley says, "I feel hopeless because I feel like there is nothing I can do."

When Brantley finally saw the apartment building, she panicked. She says, "when I looked and saw her and the baby I knew everything was alright. Thank God he had spared their life."

Many people are left picking up the pieces. Now everyone is trying to pull together to help those in need. Brantley says, "be there love her, and try to do the best I can for her and be strong for her."

Monroe's interim fire chief tells us there were only 2 injuries. Nobody had to be transported to the hospital. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
