MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Executives from CenturyLink are helping students take the next step toward their careers.

Getting a job after graduation can be a long and exhausting task, but job opportunities are looking up for students at ULM. A partnership between the university and CenturyLink, is helping them getting ready for life after college.

"57 days," says Amber Atkins, a senior at ULM. Atkins only has 57 days left until graduating with a business degree, but she has already started looking for a job.

"It's one of those things my father had me make sure that I started early," says Atkins, "I started the job search process in November."

Atkins joined hundreds of other students at a job recruitment day for Fortune-500 company, CenturyLink, that works closely with local universities to help create potential employees.

"Our university works closely with CenturyLink so that we know what curriculum, we know what requirements, what they are looking for in a graduate," says Roslynn Pogue, Director of Career Connections at ULM.

Schools like ULM and Delta Community College, work to train students for careers at CenturyLink.

"CenturyLink has made a commitment to hire 800 people over the next couples of years," says Annmarie Sartor, "that would be a combination of people who move to the area, but absolutely there's opportunity there for local employment as well.

"I wanted to come today just to kind of see what are they looking for, to make myself the best candidate I can be," says Atkins.

With this information, Atkins is hoping that after her quickly approaching graduation day, she'll be able to attain one of those positions.
