DALLAS, Ore., March 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Tom Davis, DMD learned on February 12, 2013 that his office building had been burglarized. Sometime during the morning of February 12, 2013, intruders stole the practice's desktop computer and miscellaneous office items. The police were immediately notified and have provided a thorough investigation of the break-in.  All patients were notified on March 14, 2013.

The office computer and software were both password protected, and the desktop itself was secured with a lock. Approximately 3,200 patient records were contained on the office computer. The records contained personal information, including name, address, date of birth, dental records and dental billing records. A small percentage of the records, less than 20%, also included Social Security numbers. No banking or financial information was affected.

Dr. Davis is taking steps to protect patient data from future theft or similar criminal activity by enhancing the physical security of the office and the data security of his computers. In addition to these changes, Dr. Davis has contracted with ID Experts® to provide an informational toll-free number and website to answer questions about this incident.
