Vicksburg mayor settlement approved

Posted: Updated:

VICKSBURG, Ms., (KNOE 8 News) - Case ends after some 13 months.

A federal judge has approved the settlement of a sexual harassment lawsuit against the city of Vicksburg and Mayor Paul Winfield.

The order seals the details of the agreement between the parties.

The 13-month legal case of a former mayoral chief of staff suing the mayor and the City of Vicksburg for $1.5 million has ended. A trial had been set for next year.

Lawyers for the mayor and Burks, his chief of staff from July 2009 to April 2011, settled the case Monday.

Burks filed suit in February 2012, claiming a hostile work environment and retaliation after a consensual affair with Winfield soured. Burks asked for $1.5 million in damages. Winfield denied claims of sexual relations.
