Latest updates on overnight shootings in Monroe

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - Here is the latest update and clarifications on our earlier stories about shootings which occurred in the Monroe/Richwood area last night.

According to Monroe police, at about 7pm on Tuesday evening, they responded to a reported shooting call that was reported to have occurred at the Bernstein Park area located in southern Monroe.

There were two other shootings about two hours later as well, these in Richwood. At first, it was believed that the three shootings were connected, but now police believe the Bernstein Park shooting was not related to the two shootings in Richwood.

In the first shooting at Bernstein Park, it was first believed that a white Ford Crown Victoria was involved, but police later learned it was actually used only to transport the shooting victim to the hospital and was not involved in the shooting itself. The 15-year-old who had been shot in the leg and transported is expected to fully recover. One 17-year-old male has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Monroe Police are back on the scene reviewing the crime scene Wednesday.

In a separate incident a few hours later, there were two more shootings reported along Burg Jones road at Reddix. These shootings are not believed to be connected to the Bernstein Park shooting. In this incident there were two people involved, both were transported to a hospital. Both of these two shootings occurred in the town of Richwood and are being handled Richwood Police.
