MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - KNOE 8 News has learned that talks of a management take-over of Monroe's E. A. Conway Medical Center by Monroe's St. Francis Medical Center have ended.
St. Francis Medical Center's CEO Louis Bremer says LSUHSC-S has recently informed them they are now exploring another option related to a different partner. As a result of the decision to evaluate other options, a decision was made by both parties to suspend the current discussions while LSUSHC-Shreveport fully evaluates all options.
Governor Bobby Jindal's administration is seeking public-private partnerships for all state-owned hospitals that provide charity care.
Below is a statement from:– Louis Bremer, President and CEO of St. Francis Medical Center
"St. Francis Medical Center was contacted by LSUHSC-Shreveport in early December about discussing with them a potential "public-private" partnership for E. A. Conway Medical Center. Since that time we have been meeting with LSUHSC-S officials as well as officials from DHH to evaluate the potential for a partnership. LSUHSC-S has recently informed us that they are now exploring another option related to a different partner. As a result of their decision to evaluate other options a decision was made by both parties to suspend the current discussions while LSUSHC-Shreveport fully evaluates all options. After they have completed their evaluations the discussions may or may not resume dependent upon their desire to continue the discussions.
St. Francis, from the beginning, has been of the opinion that EA Conway needs to remain in operation to not only serve the residents of NE Louisiana but to also continue providing graduate medical education to those individuals who may become future physicians in serving the community. To this end we remain supportive of EA Conway and desire to see the best solution for EA Conway even if it means a partnership with an entity other than SFMC."
