Union Parish Sheriff seeks copper thieves

UNION PARISH, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The Union Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating the theft of a large amount of copper wire from multiple locations.

The first theft was reported on Saturday when copper wire from a transmission tower used by the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and the Union Fire District was reported missing.  The tower is located on Highway143 near Linville.

On Monday, the Union Parish Sheriff's Office and Marion Police began an investigation concerning the theft of a large amount of copper wiring from a sub-station located in Marion owned by Claiborne Electric Company.  The loss to Claiborne Electric is estimated to be more than $13,000. 

While investigators were at this sub-station, workers reported to the investigators that someone had cut through the fence of a second sub-station located on Highway 827. A large amount of copper wiring was also taken from this sub-station.  The amount of loss is estimated to be the same or more as the Claiborne Electric sub-station.  

Investigators believe these incidents are related.  If you have any information call Crime Stoppers of Union Parish at (318) 368-9679.   Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to a $1000. for each incident to anyone who provides information that results in an arrest or grand jury indictment.  You do not have to give your name or appear in court.
