West Monroe dog show hopes to break stereotypes

Posted: Updated:

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Dog owners are hoping to shine a positive light on breeds like the Pitbull and American Bully.

The American Bully Kennel Club held a dog show Saturday at the Ike Hamilton Center in West Monroe exclusively to bully breeds.

Many at the show say these breeds can have a bad reputation, and it's their goal to prove the public otherwise.

One owner and judge at the show, Lori Richardson, says she's not only working hard to change animal breed legislation in her state of Arkansas, but it's her goal to change public opinion.

"People who are really unaware about the truth about the breed," says Richardson, "whether it's a Doberman a Rottweiler or any type of Bully breed, people are afraid until they get to know the dogs, and that's why we do these shows."
