UPDATE: Train derails in Swartz

UPDATE 11am:

SWARTZ, La.  (KNOE 8 News) - Highway 594 has been reopened.

UPDATE 9am: 

SWARTZ, La.  (KNOE 8 News) - 7 to 12 cars are currently off the tracks and turned over. 

The train was carrying coal and there are no hazardous materials involved.  Eyewitnesses have said this is the second derailment in the same spot in the lat several months. 

No injuries are reported at this time.

ORIGINAL STORY:

SWARTZ, La.  (KNOE 8 News) - A Union Pacific train has derailed in Swartz this morning.

The accident happened at Highway 594 and Swartz School Road. State police have said that no hazardous materials were on the train, but there have been some cars that have overturned.

At this time Highway 594 is blocked but State Police hope to have the road clear within the next hour.

Witnesses have said that there are eight to ten cars off the track with a few cars turned over, but none of the cars turned over are blocking the highway.
