MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Monroe firefighters are answering to an interim chief. But they are still honoring their former leader for all of his work. Former Monroe Fire Chief Jimmie Bryant is now in his retirement. Firefighters and friends are giving Bryant one last farewell. The former fire chief is moving into an advisory role in the mayor's office. He will become the Chief Financial Officer for the City of Monroe. Bryant says he's ready.
"I won't have as many people, really no one to oversee, but basically take on a pretty significant advisory role for the mayor and basically help the mayor in his endeavors and task that he has before him," Bryant said. "And you know, if we can do those things, we'll make it better for the city and the citizens that work here."
Firefighters are answering to Interim Chief Terry Williams. He's a 24-year veteran. He also served directly under Bryant.
