MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News/AP) - Consumers are no longer able to spend welfare money on cigarettes, alcohol, and lottery tickets.
These new regulations were handed down by the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services.
First offense violators of the new rules will stop receiving benefits for a year. It'll go up to two years for a second. And with three strikes that means no benefits for you.
Tracking the rule breakers can be difficult because welfare money can be taken off a card and used as cash.
