MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - The investigation is on after a house caught fire Saturday night. It all happened after 8:00 P.M. on the 1200 Block of McGuire Avenue in Monroe. Firefighters say there is extensive damage in the kitchen area. A fire captain believes a candle may have sparked the flames after speaking with the homeowners. Neighbors say as soon as they saw the fire, they reacted quickly.
"I ran over there and opened the door and beat on the door to see if anybody was home and it looked like we caught it in the beginning stages. And about four minutes after that, hear comes the fire department," David Moore said.
Firefighters say no one was inside the home at the time of the fire. There is no official cause of the flames. There is an investigator on the scene looking into that suspected cause.
