BATON ROUGE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - You may want to check to make sure your gun is stored away safely. That's because if one Louisiana lawmaker has her way, then you'll be responsible for a crime, if someone steals your gun and they commit an act of violence.
The proposal is scheduled to be introduced during the Louisiana Legislative session. The bill's author is State Representative Barbara Norton from Shreveport. She says the time for change is now.
"They're going to know without a doubt if that gun was locked up or if that gun was laying around," Norton said. "Because if it was locked up they're going to have to break into the cabinet. If it's in a box they're going to have to break into a box."
The bill will first have to get through a committee. Louisiana lawmakers will get together starting April 8th in Baton Rouge.
