West Monroe Property Tax

Posted: Updated:

WEST MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Homeowners in West Monroe will have a chance in May to decide whether or not to renew a property tax.

The tax is dedicated to street maintenance.

West Monroe Mayor Dave Norris says the tax was in place when he took office. This will be the fourth time he will see it renewed. The property tax generates more than $200,000 a year.

Norris says, "any revenue source is important at a time like this. These are tough times for cities primarily because of the high cost of pension payment. That's really hurting a lot of cities so every revenue source is important."

Norris says West Monroe has one of the lowest city property tax rates in the state. The special election is scheduled for May 4th.
