Grambling president hears students concerns

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Grambling State's President Frank Pouge invited all students, faculty, and staff to join him at a special lunch to celebrate President's Day. Students, we spoke to, say it's a nice gesture to see the president interacting with them.

"I've actually had lunch with our president before, he's came and just sat in the caf with his wife and ate and I thought it was amazing." Said Freshman Saydie Ackless.

"I think it's a breath of fresh air." Said SGA President Jonathan Allen.

The event wasn't all about celebrating President's Day and just having lunch with students. Dr. Pouge says it's an opportunity to hear the voice of students about potential issues here on campus.

"It is almost the only way to ensure that the university can respond appropriately to the academic issues at Grambling." Said President Frank Pouge.

Some other concerns mentioned organization of faculty and the lack to motivate students to excel on campus but others were more simple.

"I think just the need for an ear, and that's general but that's very important because an ear can go a long way. The fact that I just need you for a few seconds to have time and availability to hear exactly what I need to address to you." Said Jonathan Allen.

Jonathan added this event is a step in the right direction because it eliminates the middle man and now the president hears the concerns from students first hand.

In response, Dr. Pouge says he will integrate all concerns into the spring convocation and address them again this summer.
