Hammond man arrested after a call to police

HAMMOND, La., (KNOE 8 News) - Police in Hammond say a 30-year-old resident there has been arrested on a count of first-degree murder after calling 911 to report he had shot his father.

Hammond police report that Robert Lafargue told police dispatchers that he had shot his father, 67-year-old Laurent Lafargue.

The police say Robert Lafargue surrendered without resistance when police arrived at the residence.

Robert was booked into the Hammond City Jail then transfer to the Tangipahoa Parish Jail in Amite.

Information about a possible motive for the slaying is not yet being released.
