MONROE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - The Monroe City Council has okayed the annexation of 50 acres just south of the city but now a new wrench has been thrown into the plan.
The city of Richwood Board of Alderman have decided they would like $15,000 a month in franchise fees from Monroe.
The 50 acres in question is part of the Charleston Industrial Park.
Richwood's Board of Aldermen approved the resolution to charge the city of Monroe more than $15,000 a month in franchise fees, on the grounds that Monroe will cross Richwood's boundaries to provide a utility service.
Richwood Mayor Alvin Jackson is saying the property where Monroe is installing pipe is within the town's corporate limits.
But Monroe disputes that claim, the Monroe city attorney arguing that the property is along a state right of way and not within the town's corporate limits.
