Baton Rouge top cop battle continues

Posted: Updated:

BATON ROUGE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - Baton Rouge Mayor-President Kip Holden is making his case for firing Police Chief Dewayne White, accusing him of leaking confidential information, shredding documents, failing to discipline an officer who lied under oath and repeatedly violating departmental policy.

After a week of silence, Holden released a letter this week seeking to clarify that White remains on paid leave pending a public hearing next week. At that time, White will be allowed to respond to the allegations, including a claim that White exhibited "irrational and unacceptable behavior" during his tenure.

White's attorney, Jill Craft, dismissed the allegations as "ridiculous." She says White will appear at Monday's hearing but notes she's also filed an appeal with the Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Board, which could vote to reinstate him.
