Louisiana voucher system growing

BATON ROUGE, La.  (KNOE 8 News) - The Louisiana Department of Education announced Wednesday that 134 schools are now approved to take part in the state voucher program in the fall.

That's up from 118 schools this year. With the added schools, the number of students using taxpayer dollars to go to private schools is expected to grow.

The program sends students who are in failing public schools to private schools on taxpayer dollars.  If more students apply than slots are available, the seats are awarded through a lottery process.
