Ash Wednesday

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - All the Mardi Gras fun is over, for this year at least. It is now "Ash Wednesday", or the beginning of Lent.

Catholic churches scheduled masses where priests would dot or cross the foreheads of the faithful, with ash.

This marks the beginning of the 40-day season of penitence and fasting in preparation for Easter.

Paul Desoto, celebrates Ash Wednesday, and says,"we have to prepare ourselves in order to fully appreciate what he gave to us. We have to reflect on how to make ourselves worthy of the gift we received."

Desoto says Lent is a time of spiritual development, to be fully prepared for Easter.
