Grand Jury to hear Sinyale Morrison case

Posted: Updated:

MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - A grand jury will decide whether to indict former Monroe Engineer Department head Sinyale Morrison for payroll fraud. Assistant District Attorney Neal Johnson tells KNOE he has called the grand jury into session on February 21 at 9 a.m.

In November, Morrison resigned to "pursue other interests". In 2011, a state legislative audit found that Morrison may have violated state law by hiring an employee for a job he wasn't qualified for. She is accused of giving him and other employees hundreds of hours of unapproved overtime pay. Auditors also said Morrison herself took more than 40 hours off from work, but the time wasn't deducted from her leave.

The state police conducted a nearly year long investigation into the matter and turned over the criminal investigation report  to the District Attorneys office in August.
