Rayville public works director fired

Posted: Updated:

RAYVILLE, La., (KNOE 8 News) - Rayville's Town Council has voted to fire Public Works Director Lorenzo Brown following his indictment on 24 counts of malfeasance.

The council was unanimous in its decision to fire Brown, doing so by a 5-0 vote. Rayville Mayor Harry Lewis had recommended that the council fire Brown after having suspended him without pay since his indictment in late January.

District Attorney Mack Lancaster said the charges relate to Brown's supervision of inmate trusties on a work release program from the Richland Parish Detention Center and the buying of goods and supplies with taxpayer money. Lancaster says the investigation was triggered initially by a state legislative audit.

Brown's arraignment in the malfeasance case is set for April 3rd.
