MONROE, La. (KNOE 8 News) - Reports of an intruder on the Carroll High School campus Friday morning turned out to only be a drill. As part of the drill, the campus was placed in lockdown, but many students contacted their parents and others thinking it was real. As a result, police were also called to campus not realizing a drill was taking place. The release issued by the Monroe Police Department is below:

News Release:

At approximately 8:03 am Friday, Carroll High School conducted a Lockdown Drill to test campus security for its employees and students.  As a result of this drill, several students contacted parents via cell phones and told the parents an intruder was on the campus.

Monroe Police was subsequently contacted by these parents and advised of the alleged intruder alert.  Monroe Police responded immediately and treated the incident as an actual threat to the school.  Within minutes officers were able to determine the incident was a drill.

At no time during this incident was there an actual threat to the campus or students and no one was injured in this incident.  Monroe Police Emergency Coordinators will be contacting the school to insure better coordination between agencies for future drills.
